The Yellow-crowned Parakeet ( Cyanoramphus auriceps) is endemic to New Zealand. While endangered, it is still found across the mainland, as well as on outlying islands.

This small green bird bears a distinctive yellow patch and red stripe over its beak, and feeds on seeds, berries and other plant matter. It looks very similar to its close relative, the Red-crowned parakeet (which has an entirely red patch instead of the yellow).
